Delta Delta Delta, a National sorority held a philanthopic event on March 11, 2011 in the University Student Union Ballroom. The event, "Fashion 4 Life," was a fashion show involving various Greek members as models who walk the runway, designer jeans on sale for discounted prices, and various other items for sale.
All of the proceeds beneift the Chapter's National philanthropy, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital which provides one hundred percent aid to children with life treatening diseases as well as cancer due to donations from sponsors worldwide and organizations like Delta Delta Delta.
Amanda Massie, Vice President of Philanthropy for the chapter said that "the event was a complete success, we raised over a thousand dollars in proceeds and it feels great to be doing something for such a great cause! We put on a fashion show because I feel like it is a great way to encorporate the Greek system as a whole by having models from each house and it makes it a. more social environment. Also, the fact that we sell jeans that the models are strutting on the runway makes it not only a spectator event, but something that people can all participate in and buy cute jeans for a great price!"
The unique aspect of the event is that there are items including jeans, jewelry, skin care products, and purses available for purchase that increase the possible revenue and give the event a very welcoming vibe. Another interesting aspect of the event is the excitement of seeing your friends and fellow Greeks on the runway which brings in an enthusiastic crowd and guarantees for a great atmosphere.
Paloma Brighty-Schmidt, a third year active member in Delta Delta Delta was a model for the event, "I am the President of Up til Dawn which is another organization that works to donate proceeds to St. Jude and I always look forward to the event and was excited to represent Delta Delta Delta and our philanthropy in the best light possible." The ladies of Delta Delta Delta put on various events to raise funds and aid St. Jude in progressing toward a cure.
